Momci

About

Tamburaski Orkestar Momci was formed in 1993 by Ken and Dennis Kosovec. In addition to Ken and Dennis, original members were Frank Corak, Joseph Matievich and David Skaro. They were joined later by David Kosovec, Peter Kosovec, and David Ranilovich. The members all have extensive musical backgrounds not only as tambura performers but have also been involved in teaching, writing, and arranging music for the large tambura orchestra. The current members are David Kosovec on bas, Dennis Kosovec on kontra, Peter Kosovec on brač, Ken Kosovec on prim, and Sonya Kosovec Sestili on vocals, with guest performers Robbie Sestili on brač and Ryan Werner on čelo. Ken, Dennis, David,  Peter, and Sonya were all members of the Detroit Tamburitza Orchestra and received early musical training from the Detroir Junior group. Ken is currently the director of the Detroit Tamburitza Orchestra, former director/teacher for 10 years of the Detroit Star Tamburitzans, former čelo player for 20 years with Orchestra Lira, and Tamburitza Hall of Fame recipient from the Tamburitza Association of America. Dennis Kosovec is concertmaster and assistant to Ken in the Detroit Tamburitza Orchestra, former assistant director of the Detroit Star Tamburitzans, and former bass player for 20 years with Orchestra Lira. David Kosovec is the bas player in the Otrov orchestra, former director of Hrvatski Tanac in Pittsburgh, musician in the Kumovi folk ensemble, graduate and past featured performer in the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, and Founders award recipient from the Tamburitza Association of America. Peter Kosovec is the prim player with Otrov, former director of  South Hills Tamburitzans in Pittsburgh, musician in the Kumovi folk ensemble, graduate and past featured performer with the Duquesna University Tamburitzans, Founders award recipient from the Tamburitza Association of America, songwriter and arranger, and producer of 7 personal CD recordings. Sonya Kosovec Sestili is a graduate and past featured performer with the Duquesna University Tamburitzans, and is a frequent guest vocalist with numerous orchestras.  Robbie Sestili plays brač with the Jerry Grcevich and Kontra Band orchestras, and is a Founders award recipient from the Tamburitza Association of America.  Ryan Werner plays čelo with the T-Rroma and Kontra Band orchestras.  Tamburaski Orkestar Momci has performed at many Tamburiza Extravaganzas and Slavic festivals throughout the years and have always strived to portray tambura music to the very highest level possible.
